An ODK is going to need to withstand the elements so you need to consider only quality materials. A rendered hebel block structure with marine ply cupboards, stainless steel or aluminium framed doors are a popular option. Custom cut and polished weather proof granite or a custom made stainless bench tops are a great exterior solution.

How often would you use it should you have one installed?

Consider the layout and what space you have available to dedicate to your ODK.


Then thinking about the appliances you would consider? Wood oven, BBQ, charcoal burner, teppanyaki grill, hot plate, sink or bar fridge.

Do you have services close by? i.e. water, gas, electricity
It's important to also think where you will be spending time preparing food and try to have those areas facing towards where guests might be seated


Also, consider where your children play and where your guests tend to gather whilst your entertaining.

Think about adding an island bench or an L shaped kitchen to take advantage of the views you have available.
